Our Find: Teija

A long-time YBD Find, inspired by Nordic folklore, founded in London but based in wonderful Cornwall. Since we first found her, she has been selected as a BFC Fashion Trust recipient, a “one to Watch” by Vogue Italy, and “one of the 40 brands to know” by Grazia UK. Oh, and let's not mention that Michelle Obama even wore the brand on holiday in Italy in 2017!

Teija

Where is home to you?

In Cornwall.

What's your favourite place for food in the UK?

St Kew Inn. It's a beautiful old pub with high end cooking, tucked away in the countryside in Cornwall.

What's the best thing about British fashion?

It's the mix of refined classic style layered with quirky playful side.

Where can we find you on a Friday evening?

Ideally in a sauna by the sea! It's the best way to relax from the week. I also love all the small art events and mini festivals in Cornwall. We also take turns to cook for each other as a family, so we can have up to 3 families together for dinner any given day.

Do you have a favourite UK-based fashion designer?

I loved Alexander McQueen's and Vivienne Westwood tailoring when I was a student. I have always been into quality of make, technique and finish.

What would you do if you were PM for a day?

I would allocate funding for art education, re-start the export funding of fashion labels. And I would enable more support and funding for small sustainable, artisan-make fashion studios (and other wonderful creative businesses like potters) to help high-end design and craftsmanship flourish in the UK.

What's in the pipeline for you and your brand?

This summer we are excited to offer for the first time creative classes at our studio in Cornwall - you can come and learn about creative pattern cutting, fashion illustration and couture sewing techniques while having a lovely break in the magical Cornwall.
